Red cherry fruit and lightly umami farm aromas are complex. On the palate, bing cherry, plum and raspberry fruit are joined by five-spice, bramble and woodsy flavors with notes of iron. This wine is youthful now, but will continue to integrate and harmonize with age, greatly rewarding 3-5 years of aging. Wine Spectator rating : 88
WINE INFORMATION
Forge Cellars is a project between Louis Barruol of Château de St. Cosme in the Rhône, France and his American partner, Richard Rainey. The winery was started in 2011 and has quickly been recognized as producing some of the top quality wines of the region, year after year. They specialize in bone dry Riesling and small amounts of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. The winery is located eight miles north of Watkins Glen on the east side of Seneca Lake.
Grapes were hand harvested from vineyards on the east side of Seneca Lake at the very end of September and beginning of October 2019. The vintage was quite classic for the Finger Lakes without extreme heat or rain. Grapes were sorted, fermented using natural yeasts in large neutral wood vats and then whole-cluster pressed before being transferred to barrels (varying age from new to 3-year old) to age for 10
