This is a very aromatic expression of Vermentino, offering herbaceous notes, citrus, light stone, and a touch of florality. In the mouth, the wine is fairly intense and full-bodied. Citrus dominates the flavor profile; acidity is moderate. There’s a saline component on the palate that reminds one that the sea is nearby. The finish is persistent.
Grapes for this wine come from the 2.1-ha Prile vineyard planted in 2005 on largely sandy soil with clay and a touch of silt and gravel. 2019 saw a fairly cool and rainy spring and a very hot summer (sound familiar?). Grapes ferment cool in stainless steel tanks. The wine ages six months on the fine lees and three months in bottle before release.
Prelius is the name of an ancient coastal lake; the winery sits in a hilly amphitheatre above the lake’s former location. The bottle logo represents the fluidity of the lake and has won several design awards.
