Aromas of wild red berries, ash, and rocks. The palate offers fine and well-integrated tannins, red fruit (especially plum and cherry), and a sense of crushed rock that provides a nice, stony mouthfeel. A longer, excellent and interesting finish on this medium bodied wine.
The Portale family has grown grapes and made wine at Masseria Setteporte for generations. Ferdinando, the father of the current owner Piero, started transitioning from bush vines to wire training, and his son has continued the modernization while more than doubling the size of the estate, increasing the area under vine, and achieving organic certification. The grapes for this wine come from 30-year-old vines. They ferment in stainless steel followed by a five-day maceration on the skins with pumpovers. Malo takes place in tank, and the wine ages eight months in tank and barrique, followed by a minimum of six months in bottle.
