WINE INFORMATION

As native Sardinians, the DeMuro family has been cultivating grapes on the island for many generations.  Although the winery has a rich history, the recent generation led by Tino DeMuro has prompted a modernization in the viticultural and enological operations.  Today, Surrau has more than 50 hectares of vineyards are planted in several different locations throughout Gallura, most of which is planted to Vermentino.  All farming follows sustainable practices in order to preserve the land and allow the wines to showcase the unique landscape comprised of decomposed granite and sand rich in marine fossils.  The winery design is ultra-modern and sleek, filled with stainless steel tanks, cement vats, and a vast number of oak barrels for aging.

This Vermentino undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks.  “Branu” translates to “summer” in the local dialect.

Gallura is located in the northeastern tip of Sardinia (less than 7 miles from the coast of Corsica!).  This is a particularly mountainous region with a high granite content and steep slopes. The climate is Mediterranean and it experiences a near constant Mistral, strong winds that, in fact, help fight against disease pressure in the vineyards.  Vermentino di Gallura became a D.O.C. in 1975 and later a D.O.C.G. in 1996.
