Jean-Pierre Guedon is the winemaker of Domaine Les Haute Noelles, founded in the 1930’s. This wine comes from several vineyard sites organically farmed. Although well-known for his Muscadet Cotes de Grand Lieu, this little red wine may be his best kept secret.
The Gamay vines are about 25+ years old. They are grown on sand and mica-schist. After harvest the grapes are fermented using carbonic maceration and then aged in stainless steel for a brief amount of time. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
TASTING NOTES
This wine is fresh and bright with aromas and flavors of cherry, red berries, crushed rocks and a hint of red licorice. It is medium to light in body, with juicy acidity and velvety tannins. It can also be enjoyed lightly chilled.
FOOD PAIRING
Enjoy it with a range of dishes such as ham, roasted chicken, cassoulet, or a charcuterie and cheese plate. Roasted vegetables, buffalo cauliflower florets, or baba ganoush are other good options.
