Aromas of nature (forest floor, bark, soil) alongside cranberries, dried cherry and strawberry. On the palate there are bright red fruits flavors on the attack with bramble and savory herbs afterwards. The finish is long and minerally. Medium body with concentrated flavors and silky tannins. As the wine opens up you will notice cocoa notes, as well as pomegranate and spice.
The Hyland Vineyard sits on a south facing bench in the foothills of the Coastal Range in the McMinnville AVA (about 40 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon). It was first planted 1971 by four families working together (the Kreimeyers, Markleys, Welches, and Trenhailes) and currently spans roughly 260 acres, making it one of Oregon's oldest and largest vineyards. The site benefits from cooler temperatures in the summer and warmer temperatures in the winter; allowing for a longer and more uniform ripening period. It is planted on volcanic Jory soil at slight elevation.
In 2007, the Hyland Vineyard was acquired by Laurent Montalieu and Danielle Andrus Montalieu in partnership with John Niemeyer and the official name was changed to Hyland Estates. They own several other top quality Willamette Valley properties. At Hyland, they also produce wines from Riesling, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
2015 vintage brought another extraordinary growing season to the Willamette Valley. It was a warm, dry season that provided concentrated and well-balanced fruit. In addition to healthy grapes, the crop was also substantial.
