Tasting Notes
This Pinot Noir has well-balanced aromas that showcase a range of fruit, earth and spice.  Red and black cherries, dried strawberries, brown sugar, and tree bark are distributed throughout the nose.  Medium weight on the palate with moderate acidity, fine tannins and a juicy core.  Flavors of seeded blackberry jam, black cherry, cocoa, and a hint of cinnamon lead to a dark chocolate-laced linger finish.
This California Pinot takes its name from a line in Moby Dick by Herman Melville: “For there is no folly of the beast of the earth that is not infinitely outdone by the madness of men.”  The “madness” behind this wine is said to be the ability to deliver a great quality Pinot Noir at an affordable price—which we, at Red Feet, believe to be true!
Founded in 2012 by Xander Oxman and Geoff McFarlane, Winc is a California-based company that curates and crafts wines from across the globe.  With the help of their third partner, Brian Smith, who offers expertise in winemaking and as a trained sommelier, Winc has grown from its original position as a personalized online wine club to now also offering their wines to select retailers and restaurants throughout the United States.
Winc has several contracts with independent grape-growers and winemakers, which allows them to create a portfolio with great diversity and many styles.  They also focus on working with smaller lots in order to maintain quality.
Fruit for this wine was sourced from the Central Coast in California, a region that experiences warm to hot, dry summers and mild, moderately wet winters.  After fermentation is complete, this Pinot is aged in new and neutral French oak.
