Tasting Notes
This starts with classic Riesling aromas, including pear, apricot and light minerality. The palate is rich, creamy and well-balanced. Flavors of green apple, pear, and light florality come together on the off dry palate, leading to a long finish.
Although most commonly thought of as a toasting wine, sparkling wine is very food friendly. Enjoy with rice preparations (paella, risotto), pâté (traditional or made with mushrooms or nuts), green salads, ham, quiche, fondue or as an aperitif.
This sparkling wine, made in the traditional Cremant style, is made entirely from Riesling grapes grown in Chateau Frank’s vineyards. The Riesling is pressed whole-cluster in membrane presses thereby extracting a minimum of phenolic. Following the Cremant method, the Célèbre is aged “sur lies” after the estate tirage. Finally, the Célèbre is riddled by hand or gyropalette prior to disgorging.
Dr. Konstantin Frank, originally from the Ukraine, is the Grandfather of high quality wine in the Finger Lakes. He was the first to graft Vitis Vinifera onto Vitis Labrusca rootstock, allowing us to produce world class wines. He experimented with 60 varieties at the vineyards and winery he built overlooking Keuka Lake in 1962. The winery is now proudly run by the third and fourth generation of the family and turns out consistently great Riesling at reasonable prices.
