Tasting Notes

Clean, invigorating notes of silex on the nose showcase the limestone soils of the Rouanne vineyard. The aromas and flavors develop as the wines opens to reveal wild strawberry and fresh thyme – a complex and flavorful sparkling rosé.

WINE INFORMATION

Château de Rouanne is a historic estate with a 12th century medieval castle, situated on a classified Roman site located in the southern Rhône Valley.  The name of the estate comes from "Rugius", which is said to be the name of the original Roman owner. The estate totals 153 acres (62 hectares) of vines averaging 50 years old and farmed organically. Château de Rouanne was purchased by Louis Barruol, owner and winemaker of Château de Saint Cosme of Gigondas, in May of 2019.

Château de Rouanne is located in the appellation of Vinsobres, which was established in 2006. The appellation is situated in the northern part of the southern Rhône. Vinsobres is particularly known for producing outstanding Syrah-based wines which enjoy the freshness of a cooler microclimate due to the cold wind that blows down from the Alps into the valley.

Harvested in the cool early morning hours, the grapes undergo a lengthy pressing followed by fermentation using indigenous yeasts in concrete vats to preserve the character and purity of the terroir. The second fermentation occurs with zero dosage.
