Tasting Notes

Fresh red fruit dominates the aromas, supported by red licorice and a light mix of herbs. Red cherries and raspberries mingle with notes of crushed rocks on a medium weight frame.  Fine tannins and a persistent thread of acidity runs throughout, keeping this wine fresh and balanced.

The Cantaro family of Bodegas Fontana pioneered the Uclés DO in La Mancha, created in 2005.  The winery is part of an international program helping growers produce terroir-driven wines.  Grapes for this wine come from 124 acres of high-altitude vineyards on calcareous soils.  Summers are short, with diurnal temperature differences as high as 68°F.

The Mesta was an alliance of sheep ranchers who controlled the cañadas, traditional rights-of-way for migrating sheep. To this day, the cañadas are protected from being blocked or built upon.
