Ceretto Langhe Arneis Blange 2012

Tasting Notes

The aromas are deeply floral, with lily notes joined by apple blossoms. Pear, almond, and beeswax contribute to the complexity. In the mouth, the wine is quite full and round, well balanced with fresh acidity. The flavors are somewhat floral, with fruit pith and a slight nuttiness over mineral notes and a slight suggestion of spritz. Medium plus in body and length.

This bottling comes from the Ceretto family, winemakers in the Piedmont for over 75 years. The family is one of the largest vineyard owners in the Piedmont, with over 400 acres of vines in the Langhe and Roero districts, including holdings in Barolo and Barbaresco. All vineyards are sustainable, and some are biodynamically farmed. They make both red and white wines, including 15% of Italy’s total production of Arneis. The fruit for this wine comes from a plot of land purchased in 1985 for the purpose of growing Arneis. The vineyard name, Blangè, comes from the French boulanger, “baker;” legend has it that Napoleon’s bakers camped here when their leader was in Italy. The vineyard’s 188 acres face southeast, south, and southwest on clay-loam soils. The grapes are fermented cool in stainless steel tanks over a fairly long 15-30 days and aged in tank for six months. The wine sees no secondary fermentation.
