This beautifully aromatic young Burgundy is already complex on the nose. Spices, smoke, earth and fresh tobacco leap from the glass along with dark cherries and violets. The scents are expressive, layer after layer. The very focused palate is loaded with a ripe but delicate fruitiness, especially plum and plum skin, interwoven with fresh-turned earth. Texturally, this wine is magnificently silky and suave with nearly non-existent tannins and one can't help admire the freshness and finesse of the mouthfeel. We do hope you can put a half dozen of these away because you'll be repaid later when you showcase this classy wine with a special meal.
The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel Air is another totally gracious wine. Layers of ripe red stone fruit crushed rocks white flowers and minerals flesh out in this gorgeous Gevrey. High-toned floral notes add lift on the open bouquet and finish. This is all finesse and class. The Bel Air is the most mineral-driven and finessed of the 1er Crus here. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030. --- Antonio Galloni 92 points
Grapes for this polished wine come from 29-year old vines next to Clos de Beze and are organically farmed. The wines are made in a style that seeks textural richness. The fruit is 100% destemmed and undergoes a cold soak of 7-9 days, prior to fermentation. The wines are racked into steel to allow for a natural decantation and then moved into oak, where they spend 12-15 months on the fine lees.
Romain Taupenot of Taupenot-Merme farms 13 hectares across 19 appellations. 2010 was an excellent vintage and this gracious Burgundy reflects it perfectly.
