This wine has attractive aromatics of strawberries and raspberries. The palate is lifted with the same red fruits dominated alongside savory herbs and light notes of peach.
WINE INFORMATION
After accumulating 5 generations of grape-growing expertise, Antonio Morgante and his two sons, Carmelo and Giovanni decided to make their own wine instead of selling their grapes. This winery was officially established in 1994. They grow and produce wine from only Nero’d Avola grapes with the goal being to focus on native varieties and how to help them best succeed. In 1997 the family hired Riccardo Cotarella as the estate winemaker. Cotarella, widely recognized for his work crafting compelling wines from Italy’s native varietals, shares the Morgante passion for producing great wine. They have since mechanized the vineyard and modernized the winery.
The vineyard is located in a rolling hill region about 1200 about sea level. The property consists of 500 acres of vineyards, olive trees and almond trees. The climate is quite Mediterranean with soil that is mostly dry but does range between clay and marl. It is about 45 miles from the coast in a small town called Grotte.
The Nero d'Avola grapes harvested in mid-September, are collected in small plastic crates, they grow at 400/450 metres above sea level, in calcareous and clayey soils. The grapes are crushed and statically drained. The fermentation of the must is in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 15-17°C
(59-62,6°F). Aged for 4 months in stainless steel tanks.
