The nose offers deep, rich black currant and black cherry fruit, with smoky earth and vanilla notes and a hint of licorice. In the mouth, the wine is refreshing, with good concentration and marked but fine tannins. It is medium-bodied in the palate, with black currant, cherry, bark, and spice flavors lead to dates and dried plums on the long finish.
WINE INFORMATION
High up in the foothills of the Sierra de Toloño, in Rioja Alavesa, Sandra Bravo works in some of the oldest, and highest altitude vineyards in Rioja, growing Garnacha, Tempranillo, Viura and some Graciano. In her small winery in Villabuena de Álava, where she works with steel, amphora, and old wood, this young winemaker translates the mountainous landscape into pure and expressive wines. She harvests multiple varieties from micro-terroirs over many small plots that together form a fresh, beautiful image of the area.
After graduating in engineering and viticulture, Sandra worked in wineries around the world (Bordeaux, Tuscany, New Zealand and California) and decided to settle in Rioja in 2012.
This wine is the winery’s flagship. The vineyards are farmed organically and have clay and limestone rocky-soils, which are perfect conditions to grow Tempranillo.
Grapes are harvested by hand in mid-October; the wine ferments spontaneously and then ages for 8 months in neutral barrels, and a little bit in amphorae. It is bottled unfiltered and unfined.
