WINE INFORMATION

The Colchagua Valley, 200 km south of Santiago, is a wine region dedicated exclusively to red varieties; the southernmost sub-appellation of the Rapel Valley has emerged as an innovative area of great potential due to its wet winters followed by a long, dry summers which together form a beneficial growing season.

The Silva family pioneered grape-growing in the Colchagua Valley with the first vineyards back in 1892. Their cellar is the oldest in the valley. Casa Silva is one of Chile's finest and most traditional wine estates. That said, they do not believe in relying on tradition to deliver award-winning wines. They strive to innovate in their vineyards and to find new terroir in the coastal areas and the foothills of the Andes. But they do all of that in the context of their valley, which continues to live a lifestyle that reflects the traditional values of Colchagua. They are paving the way for Carmenère by investing in research studies in their vineyards to study clones and microterroirs.

The Los Lingues vineyard has its own terroir. Planted at about 1475 feet, the climate is Mediterranean. The Andes influence manifests with cooler nights, which creates day/night temperature differentials of up to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, ideal to increase flavors and concentration in the grapes. The cool breeze the flows between the two ranges of mountains, helps prevent disease. The average rainfall is lower than in the rest of the valley. The soil is alluvial, low in organic matter and well-draining, attributes that make the vines work harder and produce better fruit

The Los Lingues Carmenere was harvested block by block to get optimal ripeness. After a cold soak, the wine was fermented and 80% of the juice was aged in oak barrels for 10-12 months. The various blocks were blended, fined, filtered, and bottled.
