Earthy aromas of forest underbrush mix with dark berries on the nose. This is ripe, spicy, and round on the palate with more black fruit, earth, and dark chocolate notes. It is easy to enjoy and pair with food.
WINE INFORMATION
Continuing the reputation for great-value wine that he built with his family over 13 years at Chateau Routas, Charles Bieler has been creating delicious Southern French values for the last 10+ years. Bieler Père et Fils is an homage to Charles’s father, Philippe, who ushered he and his sister Mira into the wine business in the mid-1990s.
Côtes-du-Rhône Villages is a French wine Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) in the southern Rhône wine region of France. Red, white and rosé wine are all produced within the appellation. With a total of approximately 2,211 hectares under cultivation for Côtes du Rhône Villages, the average yield is approximately 38 hectoliters per hectare. Producers are required to adhere to stricter wine growing and wine making rules than those prescribed for Côtes du Rhône. In the red wines the Grenache grape must be at least 50% of the blend, with 20% Syrah and/or a maximum of 20% of other authorized varieties.
Grapes for this wine come from the village of Valreas, which is the northernmost village in the Southern Rhone. It lays at 350-450 meters above see level. The grapes are grown on limestone underneath galeets. After harvest grapes are fermented with indigenous yeast with partial whole clusters (about 30%) and aged in concrete tanks. Sulfur is only added at bottling.
