Aromas of orange blossom, ginger, and honeysuckle. On the palate, it starts with sweet expressions of ripe citrus, pear, and pineapple fruit with a crisp acid balance. Notably, this wine is off dry but any sweetness is well balanced by acidity.
The Willamette Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA) lies in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. This AVA encompasses the drainage basin of the Willamette River. It stretches from the Columbia River in the north to just south of Eugene, and from the Oregon Coast Range in the west to the Cascade Mountains in the east. At 5200 square miles, it is the largest AVA in the state. The climate of Willamette Valley is mild year-round, with cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers; extreme temperatures are uncommon. Most rainfall occurs outside the growing season and the valley gets relatively little snow.
Rudy Marchesi became proprietor of the Montinore farm in 2005 after many years of overseeing operations and as the vineyard consultant. Montinore Estate’s 230 acres of contiguous vineyard is guided by the principles of Demeter Certified Biodynamic farming (receiving certification in the summer of 2008). The vineyard’s west-facing slopes enjoy the shelter of the Coastal Mountain Range and are given to luxuriously long, cool growing seasons. The loamy clay soil, elevation and mild climate make Montinore‘s vineyards a great site for sensitive, cool climate varietals such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gewürtztraminer, Riesling and Müller-Thurgau. Their vineyards are all certified organic and more than half of them are certified biodynamic.
This wine uses grapes from several vintages in order to keep the profile of the wine consistent.
