WINE INFORMATION
The Silva family pioneered grape growing in the Colchagua Valley with the first vineyards back in 1887. Don Emilio Bouchon, the first generation of Casa Silva arrived in Chile in 1892, from Bordeaux in France. It was not until 1997 that Mario Pablo Silva, eldest son of the fifth generation, shared with his father, Mario Silva, the dream of producing wines with their own brand. Mario had dedicated a large part of his life to the recovery of the old vineyards and wine cellar, acquiring a unique knowledge of the Colchagua Valley terroir. Shortly after, his sons, Francisco, Gonzalo and Raimundo, joined the development of Viña Casa Silva. Their winery is the oldest in the valley.
Casa Silva is the most awarded Chilean winery in the 21st century. They were recently named "Best Winery of Chile - 2020" by Catad'Or Wine Awards, the most important international wine competition in Latin America.
The Sauvignon Gris vineyard is one of the oldest blocks on the Casa Silva original estate vineyard in Angostura. The vines were planted in 1912 and yields are about two tons per acre. The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve the natural acidity and concentration. All Casa Silva wines are certified sustainable through Vinos de Chile. This wine is certified sustainable and organic.
Sauvignon Gris is a pink berried grape that is a mutation of Sauvignon Blanc. It is traditionally grown in France but has become increasing popular.
