Tasting Notes

Aromas of red fruit (plum, cherry and a hint of strawberry) with black pepper and crushed rocks. On the palate this medium-bodied wine is velvety with flavors of cherry, raspberry, grilled plums, pink peppercorns and earl gray tea.

WINE INFORMATION

Tenuta Luisa is now in the fourth generation. Francesco Luisa, began with a small, five-hectare plot (12 acres) in 1907 after he was widowed at age 37 with six children. Currently it is run by his great-grandchildren Davide, an agronomist who manages the 210 acres of vineyards and brother Michele, a skilled oenologist who is in charge of the winery. The wines are grown in the Friuli Isonzo DOC zone where wines are often labeled varietally. The appellation owes its name to the river that flows through the eastern portion of Friuli Venezia Giulia: the Isonzo. The area covers a territory that goes from the Collio hills and the Karst Plateau down to the Adriatic Sea in northeastern Italy very close to the Slovenian border.

Two winds converge within the region–the Bora and the Sirocco–creating a unique and tempered microclimate. The soil is clay with limestone pebbles. In the vineyards, plantings are dense and grass is left to provide competition for the vines. The clusters are thinned and leaves are removed by hand to balance the plants.

If you look closely, you will find that the logo on the bottle is a crown with silhouettes of the two brothers on either side of their father Eddi. Eddi committed to a life of winemaking and viticulture at the tender age of 13; he transformed the winery and estate, developing it into the Tenuta Luisa that it is now. The crown represents the Collio hills that crown the area and the name of the winery's hamlet, Corona.

This Cabernet Franc is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel.
