WINE INFORMATION

Argillae is located northwest of Orvieto, in the region of Umbria. Argillae’s estate stretches over an area of approximately 220 hectares between the hills of Allerona and Ficulle. This winery was founded in 1993 by Cavaliere del Lavoro Giuseppe Bonollo who made himself in the grappa and spirits business. After creating the biggest Italian Distillery, the Bonollo Spa, Giuseppe started searching for a piece of land suited for the production of high-quality wines.

Argillae is the Latin name for clay and expresses the strong linkage between the winery and its terroir mostly made of calcareous-clayey soil. In addition there is sand, limestone and rocks but what makes it truly unique is that it contains a lot of fossils (such as seashells) from the Pliocene period.

The property also bursts with olive groves that they hand pick and then immediately cold press for olive oil. It is also surrounded by 200 acres of trees where one can gather truffles. Today the winery is managed by new generations of the Bonollo family.

Each grape is vinified separately and blended afterwards. It rests and ages in stainless steel tanks. The vineyard is sustainably farmed and the average age of the grape vines is 18 years.
