The nose starts with dark fruits and woodsy, toasty notes. This is medium-plus in weight with refreshing black cherry and black currant fruit joining tobacco, pencil lead and dark chocolate. It is a smoky-toasty style, a classic example of Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile.
WINE INFORMATION
This comes from the mid-section of the Maipo Valley about 60 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. It grows in a mild Mediterranean climate with the cooling influence of afternoon breezes from the Pacific Ocean. Since 1934 when Pietro De Martino arrived in Chile from Italy, the De Martino family has produced wines through four generations.
The sustainably-grown grapes were hand harvested during the second week of March 2019. They were 100% destemmed and underwent a cold maceration for 2-3 days. Alcoholic fermentation was spontaneous, and once finished the wine was left in contact with the skins for 5-8 days. Malolactic fermentation was then completed in tank. The wine was aged for 7-9 months in used French barriques and concrete vats.
The De Martino family was the first to label and export Camenere in 1996. They also pioneered working in century-old vineyards in Itata Valley, Chile.
