Plum and black cherry aromas combine with earth and cacao on the nose. The palate is well-executed with fine tannins and a concentration of blackberry, cassis, and black cap raspberry fruit balanced with notes of black pepper and a touch of graphite. Very Rhone-like in style and a great value!
WINE INFORMATION
Gago Viticultores de Toro is a project of winemaker and importer Telmo Rodriguez. He was part of a movement to rediscover Toro wines in the late 1990’s. The goal was to look to local families of growers, working with them and supporting a return to high quality viticulture.
2019 was a terribly dry year, resulting in very small berries and a short harvest. Precipitation at the end of September was crucial and cooler nights than usual during harvest helped to achieve good maturity and balanced wines. Dehesa Gago once more offers a frank and sincere expression of Toro, a real treat.
Since 1998 Telmo has worked with 8 families of growers practicing traditional viticulture. Vineyards are planted in low density bush-vines on tertiary sandstone alternating with quaternary gravel terraces. In general, the soils have a sandy-loam texture and are poor in organic matter. Grapes are hand-harvested in boxes. Native yeasts were used during fermentation and aging for 6 months took place in stainless steel tanks.
