Tasting Notes

Aromas are pure and citrus driven with subtle, riper tones of pear and white peach reflecting the warm and dry growing season. The palate bursts with fresh grapefruit and Meyer lemons with juicy flavors, generous concentration and refreshing acidity.


Dog Point has been recognized as among the very top wine producers in New Zealand. Their wines are hand-crafted from estate fruit grown on some of the oldest vines and best sites in Marlborough, some plantings dating back to the 1970s. In a region where 95% of grapes are harvested by machine, the winery’s insistence on lower yields and hand-harvesting makes them truly stand out.

Dog Point Vineyard own & operate the largest organic Biogro certified vineyard in New Zealand. They began their conversion to organic farming in 2009. One of the estate’s initiatives is the turning of vine prunings and winery waste into mulch to create healthy organic compost for use on plantings throughout the property. Leachate is also collected from this process and applied to the vineyards as fertilizer to help conserve moisture and improve the soil structure. In spring, cover crops such as buckwheat and phacelia are planted between the vines to encourage beneficial insects for biological control of insect pests. Over the winter months, 2500 sheep and 25 steers are brought onto the property to control grass and weed growth and assist in adding organic matter to the soil. It is an authentic working farm property with organic philosophies at the center, with the focus on producing premium quality wine utilizing environmentally friendly and responsible practices.

The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are hand harvested and sorted in the vineyard and again at the winery. Grapes are whole-cluster pressed, reducing the extraction of vegetative pyrazines and bitter anthocyanins. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel using a combination of indigenous and cultured yeasts. The wine ages for 4 months in tanks, bottled without fining and aged further in bottle.
