Tasting Notes

This Mirabelle Brut has generous fruitful aromas of red apple, pineapple and pear, followed by nuances of warm caramel and vanilla. In the mouth, there are flavors of guava and papaya, followed by Mandarin orange and Meyer lemon. The palate is crisp on entry with citrusy acidity and a lingering finish. - Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies

Schramsberg’s history dates back to the 19th century, when German immigrant Jacob Schram first made his home and started his winery on Diamond Mountain in 1862. Over one hundred years later, in 1865, Jack and Jamie Davies would purchase and restore the Schramsberg estate. They set out to produce America’s most prestigious sparkling wine, and for 40 years they grew and improved the estate while pioneering quality achievements in the category. Now their son, Hugh Davies leads the winery’s winemaking and management team. The winery is conscientious in its efforts to use solar power and green practices in its operations. In 2015, Schramsberg celebrated 50 years of stewardship in the Davies family.

As with Schramsberg’s single-vintage sparkling wines, all grapes for Mirabelle are grown in the cool-climate pockets of California’s North Coast, including Carneros, Anderson Valley, Sonoma Coast and Marin County. The fruit is hand-picked in the early morning hours at optimal maturity. Individual lot fermentations allow the winemakers to carefully select the components that make up the finished blend. The bottles are stacked and riddled in underground caves below the property. After bottle fermentation and about two years of aging en tirage, subsequent trials determine the ideal dosage to finish this multi-vintage, brut style.
