WINE INFORMATION
Weingut Jurtschitsch is one of the oldest estates in the region of Kamptal in Austria. Having previously been run by the three brothers Edwin, Paul and Karl Jurtschitsch, the family-owned winery has now been in the hands of Alwin Jurtschitsch and his wife, Stefanie Hasselbach (of Gunderloch winery in the Rheinhessen) for more than ten years.
Alwin and Stef are advocates of wines made naturally. All the vineyards are certified organic and protecting biodiversity has always been a priority. Wild life is abundant in the Jurtschitsch vineyards, with many fruit trees, grass, garlic, wildflowers and butterflies amongst the vines.
The organic grapes for this wine come from the mountain slopes in the Loiserberg vineyard. After hand-harvest the wine is fermented on the skins for ten days in open top red wine fermenters. After that the must goes into 600 L oak barrels. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Very little sulfur was added at the time of bottling.
