This wine offers aromas of red cherry, watermelon, red currant and a touch of savory components. The aromas are inviting and are reflected on the palate, with the addition of strawberry. This wine is cheerful, with moderate acidity and concentrated flavor.
WINE INFORMATION
Podere 414, located in the Province of Grosetto (southwest Tuscany) within the DOC of Morellino di Scansano, was founded in 1997 by Simone Castelli with the help of his brother Gaddo. They are the sons of famous consulting enologist Maurizio Castelli. Simone is the proprietor and enologist (his wife Mara is an agronomist); Gaddo handles sales and marketing. Simone inherited 2.5 hectares (ha) in a plot known as Podere 414, “Farm 414,” the designation given to the farm during the redistribution of the land from the division of a large estate in the 1960s. All the recipients of plots during the land reform made a heavy commitment to preserving the local wild ecosystem, an uncontaminated territory. The EU considers Grosetto Maremma along with Provence and the north of Scotland, to be the best preserved natural oases in Europe. Today the brothers own nearly 10 ha of vines and rent another five, all densely planted and farmed organically. They began producing wine between the hills and the sea in 1998.
The name “Flower Power” comes from the poet Allen Ginsburg, who created it in 1965, a reference to the hippie counterculture of the 1960s. The organic Sangiovese that makes up this wine is the first to be harvested each year. They are gently pressed, and the must goes through a brief maceration on the skins in stainless steel. The juice is cold settled, inoculated with yeast, and fermented quite cool (<13°C) for 15-10 days.
