The nose is enticed by intense aromas of cranberries, nectarine, fresh herbs, as well as strawberries. On the palate, red berries dominate, but they are enhanced by flavors of strawberries, nectarine, tangerine, wet stone and a lip-smacking acidity. The wine also offers herbaceous notes. It is overall, a very attractive, delicate and elegant wine.
WINE INFORMATION
Cotes de Provence is the largest appellation of the Provence wine region in south-eastern France. It covers roughly 50,000 acres of vineyards, and although it covers red, white and rosé wines, about 85% of Cotes de Provence wine is rosé, made predominantly from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault and the quintessentially Provencal grape Tibouren. There is an AOC requirement that at least 20% of a rosé wine must be blended from wine produced by the saignee method of maceration.
Château des Bormettes is located near Provence's Saint Martin Peak, set back in the hills overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and benefitting from air currents between two important geographic landmarks: the Massif des Maures and the Iles d’Or.
At harvest grapes are picked at night to maximize aromatic potential, reduce color extraction, and moderate the use of sulfur. In the cellar, the search for freshness continues and the resulting Argentière Rosé – named after the nearby Argentière Beach where silver (argent) was mined. The wine is aged in concrete tanks for 4 months.
