Tasting Notes

This wine is ruby in color with aromatics of violets, bramble fruits like blackberries and raspberries and bark. There is a slight spice and earthy aromas to this wine that gives it a savory and warming quality.  On the palate, this medium-plus bodied wine is quite dark fruited and earthy, with ripe black currant and black cherry. It finishes with some minerality and a touch of smoke, with considerable length.

This is a versatile wine with lush fruit that pairs well with prime rib or roast beef, grilled steak or roasted root vegetables, blue cheeses as well as aged cheese and charcuterie, and black bean enchiladas. Enjoy with tomato-based pasta dishes, baked eggplant, or lentil loaf.

WINE INFORMATION

Since 2004, Fitapreta has reflected the inspired partnership between dynamic Portuguese winemaker Antonio Macanita, and British-born viticulturist, David Booth. Dedicated to a new examination of terroir in Alentejo, Fitapreta operates on the Portuguese idea of “palpite”--intuition—when it comes to viticulture and winemaking. With this palpite they make wines that are imbued with a singular sense of place. Sustainable winery practices allow the estate to tell its own story. They operate on a strictly gravity-fed basis in the winery to avoid aggravating the must or active yeast and they use indigenous yeast for fermentation of all wines.  Antonio Macanita has an intimate knowledge of the microclimates of the estate, and small parcels of each vineyard are fermented separately to preserve distinct qualities, then blended to achieve a layered, complete picture of the terroir. Fitapreta elevates the conversation around Alentejo and produces wines that reflect the skill and passion of its founders.

This wine is composed of the highest quality fruit from hand harvested, sustainably farmed 12-50 year old vines mature estate vineyards and vinified with minimal intervention. The three?varieties are fermented separately after 14 days of skin contact and after ageing in 50% stainless steel and 50% conditioned French oak barrels for 10 months and blended.
