Tasting Notes

Medium aromas of rich black fruit, blueberry, toast, vanilla, cigar box spices, leather, and tobacco.  The palate is supple and intense, with firmness and chew.  The entry favors the fruit, with mulberry, dried black currants and light toast. The midpalate offers the added complexity of licorice and cigar box, and the black fruits return on the long finish of this medium-plus-bodied wine.  Open early or decant if able.

Founded in 1999, Clos de los Siete is a project of famed winemaker-consultant Michel Rolland.  It is located some fifty miles south of the city of Mendoza, where alluvial plains meet the foothills of the Andes.  It is the partnership of 4 families with ties to Bordeaux.

In the name “Clos de los Siete” there are two ideas: the amazing unique challenge and a single block vineyard forming an enclosure called Clos en French. There are four key elements to the site where the winery was built and vines planted: the soils (pebbles, clay and sand); weather (dry with large day-night temperature differencial); high altitude vines; and orientation.

Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before and after destemming. The winery and winemaking process is gravity fed. The final wine is aged in a combination of oak barrels and stainless steel vats for about a year. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
