About the Wine
The Lafage Estate expands over more than 160 hectares including stretches of heath and pine, 138 which is cultivated for grape growing. The manor dwelling is an ancient stone-built farmhouse located adjacent to the vineyard-fringed road between Perpignan, the former capital of the Kings of Majorca, and the Mediterranean seashore. Husband and wife team, Jean-Marc and Eliane, own vineyards in Roussillon: some are situated a few kilometers from the Mediterranean, while others can be found in the foothills of the Pyrenees. This range of sites allows them to make both refreshing whites as well as concentrated reds.
Cote d’Est, as the name suggests, comes from vineyards planted on the gentle slopes facing the Mediterranean just a few kilometers inland from the sea. Benefiting from the thermal breezes that refresh these vineyards every afternoon in the summer – which preserves a high level of natural acidity in the grapes – this is a lively blend of Grenache Blanc with smaller percentages of Chardonnay and Roll (Vermentino). Floral and aromatic, it is an excellent example of the open and friendly whites you can find all along the Catalan coast from Perpignan to the Penedes.
The vines used to make this wine average 30 years old planted in alluvial gravel. Harvested by hand and fermented and aged in tank for 4 months on the lees.
