Tasting Notes

This attractive and classic wine shows flavors of apple, lemon, and peach. It is still youthful with finesse and minerality.  Fresh fruit is balanced by discreet oak giving light butterscotch notes in this medium weight wine.

WINE INFORMATION

This wine comes from an 11-acre parcel around the village of Rully in the Côte Chalonnaise region of Burgundy. Côte Chalonnaise is located between the famous Côte d’Or vineyards and the value-driven Maconnais wine area.

Maison Chanzy was founded by Daniel Chanzy in 1974 in Bouzeron, the only commune whose wine is based on the white grape Aligoté.  Chanzy envisioned Côte Chalonnaise wines that would rival the greatness of the Côte d’Or and invested heavily in vineyards there. In 2013, a group of Burgundy wine lovers purchased Chanzy and eventually expanded its holdings to 200 acres.  With full control of production from vineyard to bottling, Chanzy’s impressive range spans 40 appellations in 8 villages of Côte Chalonnaise and Côte d’Or. Wines are made with Chardonnay, Aligoté and Pinot Noir.

Vineyards are farmed without the use of herbicides and pesticides, instead opting for organic fertilizers and occasional plowing between rows. Chanzy is in the process of obtaining Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification. This particular parcel, “En Rosey”  faces southeast and is located at the highest elevation in Rully.  It is named in reference to the small sorrel, a species of stinger plant (“rumex” in latin).

Grapes are pressed slowly and gently with cold temperature fermentation to respect the delicate aromas of the Chardonnay. Aging takes place in large casks and in 450-liter barrels for ten months and then the wine spends five months maturing its flavors in stainless steel vats before bottling.
