Tasting Notes

This is a very aromatic, almost shockingly so, wine, with its ginger and ginger skin, lychee, cinnamon, cardamom, and orange blossom. By the second, less surprising sniff, aromas are very pleasant, slightly bitter, and well shaped. It’s full flavored and intense in the mouth, but not too much so, with ginger the first impression followed by sweetly ripe fruit (mango, papaya, guava). Nothing here is overpowering—texture is rounded and acidity moderate and well integrated. Medium-plus in body and length.


In 1698,Balthazar Albrecht migrated from Thann to Orschwihr in southern Alsace and began making wine. Today the eighth generation of the family continues the tradition. The property contains holding in three Grand Cru vineyards as well as less exalted sites, and all wines are made with estate fruit. Seven varieties are grown, six whites and Pinot Noir. Several types of bottlings are produced: Tradition, Reserve, single-vineyard Grand Crus, dessert wines (known for their excellence), and Crémant (both Brut and Rosé). The house was a pioneer in producing sparkling wine, starting in 1971; by 1976, thanks to their efforts, Crémant d’Alsace became an AOC.

Vintage 2018
Very mild temperatures in mid-April encouraged rapid budding and very strong vine growth. Mild and sunny flowering period produced grapes of a nice size – a good omen for the harvest conditions. An exceptionally sunny and hot summer followed. The wines of the 2018 vintage are characterised by structure and fullness and retained an astonishing freshness despite the hot August days.
