WINE INFORMATION

Since the 18th century, the Statti family has lived in the heart of the "Enotria Tellus", the ancient name for Calabria, meaning land of wine. The estate is comprised of 100 hectares of vineyards, 50 hectares of citrus groves, and 300 hectares of olive trees. Not only is the Statti family deeply rooted in agricultural endeavors, they are also breeders of Bruno-Alpine dairy cattle. Aside from milk production, these cattle offer biodiversity to the farm and provide fertilizer for the vines.

The grape Greco (bianco) was likely brought to Italy thousands of years ago by Greek settlers. It is most commonly found in southern Italy, and is closely associated with the regions of Campania and Calabria. It is a late ripening grape that is often noted for its highly aromatic profile. Mantonico is a grape variety with a written history that dates back to the 15th century. It is grown along the Ionian coast of Calabria, and is used to make still dry wines as well as sweet dessert wines. Like Greco, it too is late ripening, and is often one of the last grapes picked during harvest.

Calabria is located in the “toe” of Italy, and experiences a Mediterranean climate. It is surrounded by the Apennine Mountains to the north, the Ionian Sea to the east and south, and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west. Soils in the region are predominately calcareous marl with clay and sand.

After harvest the grapes are lightly pressed, then fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures for 10-12 days. It remains in stainless steel tank for 4 months before the wine is bottled.

After that, it will be 2 to 4 months before the wine is made available to consumers.
