WINE INFORMATION
Michael and Anne Dashe founded their urban winery in Jack London Square, Oakland in 1996. Despite their distance from their vineyards, they stressed expression of place; using native yeasts, small-lot fermentation, and little to no fining or filtering.
At Dashe Cellars, Michael and Anne are committed to creating vineyard-focused wines that reflect the unique soil, climate and regional characteristics of world-class vineyards. Focusing on older vines, steep hillside locations, rocky soils and stressful growing conditions, they work closely with their growers to ensure careful vineyard management, low yields, as well as organic practices.
Each varietal was fermented separately, using the native yeasts resident on the grape skins. The wine was aged for a total of 14 months in French oak barrels, 100% of which were 1-year or older oak, to prevent the oak from overpowering the purity of the fruit.
TASTING NOTES
From the producer: Very aromatic with pomegranate, black cherry, and raspberry, mixed with hints of cassis, chocolate, and slight peppery spice. The palate is lush, with lively texture and lovely black cherry and pomegranate fruit, bright acidity to balance the sweet fruit flavors, black pepper and clove spice, and a long, lively finish of black cherry, pomegranate, and hints of licorice and cocoa powder.
FOOD PAIRING
Barbecue sauce, slow cooked ribs, grilled meats, and spicy cuisine all make great matches for this food friendly wine. Of course, you can have this Zinfandel on its own or with traditional red-sauced pizzas.
