Intense, concentrated and ripe, this wine offers complex aromas of black currant and black cherry notes accented by spice and a touch of earth. It is rich and dense in the mouth, yet harmonious, with softened and balanced tannins. It is hard to guess the origin of this wine as it has an enjoyable richness, prime aging and melds Old World flavors with international grapes.
Rodano is a small, artisanal estate nestled in a quiet hillside in Castellina-in-Chianti, southwest Tuscany. Vittorio Pozzesi had been in charge of the estate since they first began to bottle wine on their own in 1967 but now his son, Enrico, handles the management of the winery. The domaine’s former winemaker was Guilio Gambelli, one of the most legendary winemakers in Chianti (he passed away in 2012), With more than a hundred hectares under vine, Rodano farms organically.
The gem of the property is the beautiful, south-facing amphitheater vineyard of Viacosta (average vine age 35-45 years), from which these Cabernet Sauvignon grapes come. Mon nene is named after Enrico’s daughter.
The Cabernet grapes are grown on alluvial, calcareous soil, hand-harvested, and then fermented in cement with ambient, natural yeast. After a 28-day maceration with remontage and delestage, the wine is aged in neutral botti ranging from 10 to 25 HL for two years.
