WINE INFORMATION
Weingut Jurtschitsch is one of the oldest estates in the region of Kamptal in Austria. Having previously been run by the three brothers Edwin, Paul and Karl Jurtschitsch, the family-owned winery has now been in the hands of Alwin Jurtschitsch and his wife, Stefanie Hasselbach (of Gunderloch winery in the Rheinhessen) for more than ten years.
Alwin and Stef are advocates of wines made naturally. All the vineyards are certified organic and protecting biodiversity has always been a priority. Wild life is abundant in the Jurtschitsch vineyards, with many fruit trees, grass, garlic, wildflowers and butterflies amongst the vines.
The grapes for this wine come from various mountain slopes with the Loiserberg and the Steinmassl making up the lion’s share. The goal is to deliver an elegant interpretation of Langenlois and the cool, elevated slopes that make it such a special place. The must was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures and left to rest on the fine lees before bottling in spring.
TASTING NOTES
This is a beautiful expression of Grüner with aromas of green apple, wet rock, Asian pear, light white tea and minerality. On the palate this wine has a refreshing texture with the aromas translating into flavors with nice complexity. It is medium in body with a long saline finish.
FOOD PAIRING
Pair with lighter meats, poultry or pork loin. Try with smoked or braised fish. The acidity would cut nicely through salt and fat, like in a smoked ham. Enjoy with spicy Chinese flavors, sushi, tapas, or Risotto.
