The nose reveals cherry skin and savory notes of olives and barrel. The palate is medium weight or slightly more with sweet fruits of red cherry, blackberry and plum. Light to medium acidity balances with fine tannins that turn a little gritty toward the finish.
This comes from a small, family-run estate in Catellini-in-Chianti (in the heart of Chianti Classico on the west side) dating back to the 16th century. The Pozzesi family began bottling their own wine in 1967; it's now run by son Enrico. The wine is certified organic--grapes are hand-harvested, fermented with natural yeast in cement, and aged 15 months in large, neutral Solvenian botti.
