Tasting Notes

From the Producer: With its aromas of rose and smoke, the 2017 is typically fleshy: it is quite a structured Saint Joseph but carries within it the ‘etherealness’ of a late harvest. Peony, wild blueberry, liquorice, tobacco.

This is 100% Serine (heirloom Syrah) grown on granite sand in the small Malleval valley. It aged for twelve months: 20% in new casks, 40% in 2nd use casks, and 40% in 3-4th use casks.

Château Saint Cosme, located in the Northern Rhône village of Gigondas, is the most ancient estate in the region, grapes having been planted there since 1416.  Louis Barruol’s ancestors acquired it in 1570.  Louis took over in 1992 and began negociant activities in 1997.  His estate fruit is exclusively used for his Gigondas wines, and he sources fruit for his other wines, working closely with the growers throughout the season. His negociant wines are simply labeled Saint Cosme.
