Tasting Notes
From the Producer: charcoal, violet, raspberry, white pepper
Notes from the Producer: "Old vine Grenache in Miocene sand equates to aromatic finesse, elegant texture and depth on the palate. As the wine matures, it takes on notes of Morey Saint Denis Pinot with its peony and red berry fruits. What a wonderful idea to have planted this vineyard at the dawn of the 20th century, 12 years before the Great War, one that is still with us today. Obviously, its voice is now more muted, but nevertheless persuasive."
Grenache from old vines planted on Miocene limestone soils.
Whole cluster pressed and aged for twelve months in oak (20% new, 50% 2nd use, 30% 3rd-4th use). Bottled without filtration.
The St. Cosme estate sits on the site of a Gallo-Roman villa and has been in existence since 1416. Winemaker Louis Barruol took over from his father in 1993 and added a negociant arm of the business in 1997.  The property has been in the family since 1490 with 14 generations of vignerons tending the historic site.
