Tasting Notes

This easy drinking, yet characterful wine gives aromas of blackberries mixed with licorice, light earth and dried herbs.  The medium plus-weight palate is silky and well integrated, with black cherries, wild berries, garrigue, savory and mineral tones. You’ll find this to be a red that stays refreshing and polished despite its depth and wild flavors.

Sylvain Fadat is the third generation to farm this domaine located in the commune of Montpeyroux in the Languedoc of southern France. The certified organic property is comprised of 21 hectares at 1200 feet elevation within a volcanic amphitheater of handmade terraces. The extremely rocky soil is filled with marine fossils and raw limestone. Sylvain says, “We believe that work in the vineyards has far more influence on a wine's quality than what we do in the cellar.”
Grapes for this wine are hand harvested from twenty-year old vines, destemmed, fermented in stainless steel using natural yeast, and aged in a combination of foudres and stainless. The wine is bottled unfiltered following the lunar cycles. The name “Lou Maset” refers to the old stone hut in the vineyard at Aupilhac where vineyard workers take refuge in the middle of a hot day.
