Tasting Notes

The aromas are both round and fresh. This Verdicchio is clean with soft notes of white peach, nettles, citrus and flint. On the palate the acidity is refreshing with notes of apricot, raw almond, and pronounced minerality. Beautiful depth on this medium body wine with a lingering finish.

The winery of Andrea Felici is located in the Marche region, between Apiro and Cupramontana, the heart of the homeland of Verdicchio. Nestled on a hill at the foot of Mount San Vicino at an altitude of 516 meters above sea level. Located on the Adriatic coast in Central Italy near Emilia-Romagna and Abruzzo, the sparsely populated region of Marche is the birthplace of the indigenous grape Verdicchio. The Castelli di Jesi  DOC is one of the largest zones that Verdicchio is grown in. The particularity of this area lies in the clay and water-rich soils that cover a strip of land bordered by the Adriatic Sea to the East and the Apennines to the west. The gently rolling hills of limestone are ideal for growing Verdicchio. The root word Verde means green and defines both the wine and the yellow-green hue of the grape.

The winery started bottling their two estate wines in 2003. Today, the 10-hectare estate is run by Leopardo Felici, whose passion for and dedication to Verdicchio are infinite, as is his broad knowledge of the wine world; before taking over the estate in 2007, his father insisted he gain more wine experience, so Leo worked as sommelier in London at Gordon Ramsey's Savoy and in Florence at Enoteca Pinchiorri.

This winery practices organic viticulture with certification. Grapes are harvested by hand, the clusters are gently placed in small boxes and the grapes are pressed within a few hours, and temperature controlled fermentation is achieved without oxygen. The wine matures and mellows in cement and stainless steel vats for a period much longer than the minimum prescribed by regulations.

The cuvée is made from a blend of Verdicchio grapes harvested from various vineyards on the Felici farm, from a mix of younger vines (7 years old), as well as older vines (35 years).
