Tasting Notes
From the producer: "We consider this a “grand cru” site because of its close proximity to the lake and rocky terroir of shale near the surface. This vineyard always expresses its terroir clearly; grapes ripen early and well, yielding distinct character and power." Savory and intense with flavors of stone and saline interplaying with apricot skin, apple and anise.

92 Points Wine Spectator: Alluring, with jasmine and honeysuckle notes leading the way for creamed melon, quince and star fruit flavors. Shows a sense of richness but stays racy and fresh through the mineral-edged finish. Drink now through 2024. 75 cases made. JM

Grapes for this wine are grown at Leidenfrost Vineyard, located on the east side of Seneca Lake in Hector.  Hand-harvested, hand-sorted, and whole-cluster pressed, this Riesling ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in neutral barrels.

Forge Cellars is a project between Louis Barruol of Chateau St. Cosme in the Rhone, France and his American partner, Rick Rainey.
