Orchard fruits, especially pears and apricots lead the aromas, followed by notes of almond skin and fruit blossoms. Medium weight with refreshing acidity. The palate is clean and mineral-driven, accompanied by flavors of almond paste, orange zest, and citrus.
WINE INFORMATION
The Casale Marchese estate was built in the Middle Ages at the site of two Roman cisterns, and has been owned by the Carletti family since 1713. Today, the fifth generation is at the helm of operations. Alessandro Carletti is the business manager, and his younger brother, Ferdinando, is the estate’s agronomist. Traditional Frascati varieties are planted on the 50-hectare site, and include Malvasia Puntinata, Malvasia di Candia, Trebbiano Toscano, Greco, Bombino, and Bellone.
Grapes for this blend come from hillside vineyards with an average vine age of 40 years planted on volcanic soils. Casale Marchese farms organically and hand-harvests all of their grapes – something not very common in the region. Fermentation takes place with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks followed by tankaging for 2-6 months.
The town of Frascati is located roughly 15 miles from Rome, and has a history of winemaking dating back to the 5th century BC. In 1996 the region was granted DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) status, and DOCG (e Garantita) in 2011. Frascati is often thought of as the wine of Rome, enjoyed by locals and tourists in cafes throughout the city.
