Tasting Notes
Grenache and Syrah grapes for this wine were grown on the single vineyard site, "Valbelle," with vines averaging 80 years old.  The soils at Valbelle are comprised of limestone, marl, and clay.  Grapes are co-fermented before ageing for 12 months in a variety of oak: 25% in new oak, 40% in one year old barrels, and 35% in two year old barrels.  This wine was bottled without any filtration.
Château de Saint Cosme sits on the site of a Gallo-Roman villa and has been in existence since 1416. Winemaker Louis Barruol took over from his father in 1993 and began a negociant arm of the business in 1997.  The property has been in the family since 1490 with 14 generations of vignerons tending the historic site.
