Tasting Notes
92 points. "Another wine that shines for its purity and elegance is the 2012 Côte-Rôtie. Possessing a terrific perfume of crushed flowers, olive, smoke and pepper, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, no hard edges and a silky, almost sexy texture that keeps you coming back to the glass. Drink it over the coming decade." - Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate, Dec. 2014

Grapes for this wine were grown on schist soils on the slopes of La Viaillère, an eastern-facing vineyard site in Côte Rôtie. After being whole-cluster pressed, this Syrah aged for 12 months in 40% in new oak and 60% from one year old barrels before being bottled without filtration. This Côte-Rôtie always shows stunning aromatics, breed and class.

Château de Saint Cosme sits on the site of a Gallo-Roman villa and has been in existence since 1416. Winemaker Louis Barruol took over from his father in 1993 and began a negociant arm of the business in 1997.  The property has been in the family since 1490 with 14 generations of vignerons tending the historic site.
