Tasting Notes

Aromas of nicely ripe damson and black plums are augmented by hints of cinnamon, clove, char, and stem.  With air, the palate offers dark fruits (mulberries, blackberries, plums), a fine texture with unobtrusive tannins, and savory notes.  There’s a pleasant bitterness on the fairly long finish.  Make sure you decant it (or open early) to enhance its aromas and flavors while softening the tannins.

The Crociani estate is now in the hands of the fourth generation of the family, managed by Susanna alone after the untimely death of her brother.  She runs about 10 hectares (26 acres) of vineyards on medium-textured soils in Le Caggiole, in the heart of the Vino Nobile production area.

Grapes are hand-harvested and vinified at the nearby estate cellars.  Part of the wine is aged in 14th century cellars, part in a nearby rented cellar, both using large Slavonian oak casks.  The estate also produces grappa, extra virgin olive oil, honey, and plum jam.
